The USA marked button
is the most widely used, marked military button found at Rev War sites,
with many slight variations. The 1.08" diameter button is a French import
enlisted button.
I make several varieties: thin, thick, and some with a deep shank for use
with a leather thong or cord.
* besides button size means this button design was used by
Offices and Rank and File.
The original mold for
this button exists, but no substantiated
archeological finds of this button style are known.
USA deep shank
buttons for thonging.
On the left is a tapered shank, on the center and right are ring shanks.
Both shanks are long enough that you can thong the buttons to the coat.
The holes are .12" dia and hole centers are (L to R) .16", .14"
and .20" from the back of the button.
The left and center buttons are listed on the order form as the 'USA - deep
shank'.
The right button is listed
on the order form as the 'USA - thin button, deep ring shank'.
The right button is being used by the 1st Conn. Light Infantry.
The Thin button is .05"
thick, and available in .87" and .73" diameter.
The Thick button is .08" thick, and available in .88" and .74"
diameter.
